What we do

Three areas of pension law practice

Our work is confined to pension-related matters, which allows us to consider each matter with full attention and without the distraction of adjacent areas. Below is a description of the three services we currently provide.

Review of statutory pension entitlements

Statutory Pension Review

For individuals whose working history includes periods under statutory retirement arrangements. We examine available records, analyse the applicable provisions, and produce a plain-language position paper setting out what is confirmed and what remains open.

  • Record examination and analysis
  • Written position paper in plain language
  • Follow-up step guidance

Consultation on pension withdrawal decisions

Withdrawal Consultation

An advisory consultation for clients at the point where withdrawal decisions must be taken — lump-sum options, scheduled drawdowns, or interactions with other retirement provisions. A written note of the consultation is prepared and remains yours to consider privately.

  • Scheme rules and tax-context review
  • Interaction with other retirement plans
  • Written post-consultation note

Representation in beneficiary nomination disputes

Beneficiary Dispute Representation

Representation for clients in disputes over pension beneficiary nominations — following a bereavement, a family disagreement, or an administrative question raised by the scheme. We engage with care for the circumstances, in measured correspondence, with clear written updates at each stage.

  • Scheme and third-party correspondence
  • Formal submissions where required
  • Written updates throughout

Common questions

Questions clients often bring to us

What does a statutory pension entitlement review involve? +

We obtain and examine the available records of your employment periods under statutory retirement arrangements — EPF, KWAP, or other public schemes. We then analyse the applicable provisions and prepare a written paper setting out your entitlements as we understand them, noting any open questions and the steps you might consider next. The paper is written in plain language and is yours to keep.

How long does a withdrawal consultation typically take? +

The consultation itself is usually scheduled for ninety minutes, though we do not cut the conversation short if more time is needed. A written note summarising the matters discussed is sent to you within five working days. You are free to review it privately and return with further questions at any point.

My family disagrees over a pension nomination — where do I begin? +

An initial enquiry is the right starting point. We will ask you to share the key documents — the nomination form, the scheme's communication, and any correspondence already exchanged — and we will then explain, without obligation, what process applies and what the realistic scope of the matter appears to be.

Do I need to come to your office in Johor Bahru? +

For initial enquiries and document review, we can often proceed by correspondence and telephone. For the withdrawal consultation and for representation matters, at least one meeting in person is generally preferable. We are happy to discuss what suits your circumstances at the point of enquiry.

What documents should I gather before contacting you? +

Whatever you have to hand is a reasonable starting point. Useful documents include your EPF or scheme statements, your employment record or payslips covering the relevant periods, and any correspondence from the scheme or employer. If some records are missing, that is a common situation and we can advise on how to retrieve them.

Are fees quoted inclusive of all costs? +

The fees listed are for the professional service itself. Where a matter requires filing fees, scheme administration charges, or other third-party costs, these will be identified and discussed with you before any commitment is made. We do not proceed with steps that carry additional cost without your prior knowledge and agreement.

Take the first step

A pension matter may benefit from an independent review.

Whether your question is about entitlements, an approaching withdrawal decision, or a dispute that has arisen in the family, we are available to listen and to advise in a measured and considered way.
